The increasing interest in electric vehicles in Azerbaijan is evidenced by rising sales figures. Despite this, a significant portion of the population remains hesitant, primarily due to concerns about the availability of charging infrastructure and the potential for energy depletion during travel. Nonetheless, with the current infrastructure, careful route planning enables comfortable travel across various regions.
In alignment with the President of Azerbaijan’s directive on the "Promotion of Electric Motor Vehicles," the Azerbaijan Automobile Dealers Association (AADA) has undertaken several initiatives in collaboration with Sils. These include "Yashil olke" ("Green Country") ecological car rides along the Baku-Mingachevir and Baku-Gobustan routes, and "Avto Eko" electric car exhibitions. A notable development in this initiative was the inaugural electric car race held last week in Azerbaijan.
Natig Zarbaliyev, Chairman of the Board of AADA, provided insights into the race conditions and outcomes. The concept for the race was inspired by a meeting with Rafael de Mestre, the renowned Spanish traveler who completed a round-the-world trip in an electric car over 80 days, passing through Azerbaijan. The aim of the race was to demonstrate the practicality of electric vehicles and address concerns regarding their daily usability.
The race involved a straightforward challenge: participants were required to travel from Baku to Nabran on a single charge and return with at least 50 percent battery reserves. Twelve electric cars competed, each monitored by an expert to ensure compliance with the rules. Prominent auto reviewers served as experts and provided detailed reports on the race’s outcomes. Notably, all participating teams successfully completed the route with the required energy reserves and received diplomas for their achievements.
AADA plans to continue these competitions, with the next event scheduled to cover the route to ancient Sheki.
We extend our gratitude to our ongoing supporters, including Amsoil, Maşin.az, CarsCharge, Baku Auto Mall, Palma resort, and Bison, for their contributions to the success of this project.
